GRAVITY GAMES MAY BE THE BIGGEST RIP OFF OF SKIERS AND RIDERS EVERGravity Games was a hundred million dollar event held in January, 2000, yet the total purse for the event, $380,000, was considerably less than what a 10th place golfer wins in single major PGA tournament. The extreme contest had some of the best skiing I have ever seen but the WINNER walked away with only a mere $12,000. Who sponsors a hundred million dollar event and awards the winner only $12,000? Peterson Companies and NBC Sports. The nominal 1st Place award would have been understandable if the event had been held by a small budget internet magazine like Gravitygraphics.com, but it wasn't. What should have been the award money went into the pockets of Peterson Companies and NBC Sports executives, not the athletes. Not only did Peterson Companies and NBC Sports exploit the skiers and snowboarders, the Gravity Games theme was stolen from Gravitygraphics.com.First Peterson Companies and NBC Sports stole the theme of Gravitygraphics.com's premier poster "Drop In" passing it off as their idea and using it as the theme for the Gravity Games. In addition, Gravitygraphics.com's web site description was copied almost word for word in the event advertising. When Gravitygraphics.com approached the Mammoth Mountain Manager about the obvious infringement she didn't deny it. Her actual response was "So what if we did steal it, you don't have enough money to sue". She wasn't concerned because Gravitygraphics.com can't afford to sue NBC and Emap Peterson.I wonder what the 1st Place award will be next year? Maybe a pat on the back?Peggy Honingford, Newport Beach |
